The exhibition Szapocznikow. Personal does not attempt to rival the major presentations of this outstanding artist's work, which have been held in Poland and around the world since the monumental monographic exhibition Alina Szapocznikow 1926-1973 (Zachęta, NMK, MSL, NMWr 1998-1999). That exhibition, which was the first complete presentation of Alina Szapocznikow's work, preceded the exhibition Sculpture Undone 1955-1972 (Brussels, Los Angeles, New York, 2011-2012) and the subsequent exhibitions Human Landscapes at The Hepworth Wakefield (2017-2018) and Körpersprache / Langage du corps in Ravensburg and Grenoble (2025), which featured works from the rich collection of the National Museum in Krakow. Today, finally, in one place - in the space of the Gallery of 20th and 21st Century Polish Art - you can see all of the works by Alina Szapocznikow in our Museum's collection and several works from other collections that complement the emotion-focused narrative of the exhibition Szapocznikow. Personal. The exhibition is designed to have an almost haptic effect on the viewer - despite it not being possible to touch the works, it is meant to create a feeling of physical closeness. The small, atmospherically lit space in which the sculptures are shown allows viewers to experience Alina Szapocznikow's sensitivity in a truly personal way.
